In our home, October is not just pumpkin spice, football, and school chaos. It’s the month of the Rosary. The Church gives us this beautiful reminder every year to pick up our spiritual weapon and lean into grace, one Hail Mary at a time.

Our family prays the Rosary together every evening. It is one of our daily anchors, even when life is loud and full. On top of that, I personally pray three more Rosaries throughout the day — usually one early in the morning, one during a commute, and one while waiting in pickup lines or between meetings. It adds up to all four sets of mysteries over the course of the day, and it centers everything.

Why October?

The Feast of Our Lady of the Rosary is on October 7th. It commemorates the Battle of Lepanto in 1571, when Christian forces defeated the Ottoman Empire after Pope Pius V asked all Catholics to pray the Rosary. Coincidence? I don’t think so. That’s power. And we still need it today — not on a battlefield with swords, but in the battle for our souls and the hearts of our families.

Why Pray It Daily?

Because life is hard and we are not meant to do it alone.

The Rosary centers us on the life of Christ through the eyes of His mother. It slows us down. It clears the mental clutter. It makes room for God to speak. And once it becomes a habit, it feels less like a task and more like a lifeline.

A practical tip: if you want to work your way up to four rosaries a day, try praying all the opening prayers first thing in the morning — Apostles’ Creed, Our Father, three Hail Marys, and the Glory Be. Then carry a pocket rosary or use your fingers, and finish a decade or two during breaks, errands, or walks. Before you know it, you’ll be praying with Mary all day.

Why Pray It as a Family?

Because they are watching. Because the Rosary is a chain that binds hearts and homes together. It teaches our kids that prayer is not something we squeeze in when life is calm. It is the calm. It is the strength. And it is the grace.

Some of our best family conversations happen right after the final “Hail Holy Queen,” when someone asks a question, shares something unexpected, or cracks a joke about who forgot which mystery. It is human. It is holy. It is real life with God.

Even if your family is new to it, start with a decade. Then build. And if you’re thinking, But my kids are wild, that’s fine. Mary was a mom. She gets it.
